Meet Dr. William Wells
Dr. William Wells is an experienced educational leader with more than 30 years of service in public education and leadership development. Throughout his career, he has served as a teacher, coach, school administrator, district leader, and superintendent, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing today's schools and organizations.
Beginning his career in Amherst County Public Schools in 1993, Dr. Wells has held a variety of leadership roles, including Assistant Principal, Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent. His extensive experience includes instructional leadership, strategic planning, organizational management, personnel development, community engagement, and continuous school improvement.
As Superintendent of Amherst County Public Schools, Dr. Wells has led initiatives focused on student achievement, operational excellence, staff development, and community partnerships. His leadership philosophy is rooted in collaboration, accountability, and a commitment to helping individuals and organizations reach their full potential.
In addition to his educational leadership experience, Dr. Wells proudly served 27 years in the United States Army Reserve. During his military career, he was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and later served as a First Sergeant at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he helped lead and mentor soldiers during basic training.
Dr. Wells earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Virginia Tech, a Master's degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia, and a Doctorate in Leadership Studies from Lynchburg College.
